What I Do

VHS preservation. Every year, thousands of tapes end up in landfills. Local TV broadcasts. Corporate training videos. Home recordings. Commercials that only aired in one market, once, in 1987. Nobody kept this stuff on purpose. It was disposable. Nobody thought it mattered.

I think it matters. I find tapes, digitize them live on stream, and archive whatever’s on them. A Cincinnati broadcast from 1989 with all the local commercials intact. Training videos from grocery chains that closed decades ago. Local news footage the network never kept. This is the stuff that falls through the cracks of official archives.

672 tapes cataloged and counting. The archive covers recordings from 1979 through the mid-2000s — home recordings, Sunbury Collection tapes, eBay finds, tapes sent in by viewers. Local markets from Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Wichita, Sacramento, and dozens of others. Lost media confirmed on dozens of tapes.

The Stream

Four nights a week, I go live and put in a tape. Sometimes I know what’s on it. Usually I don’t. That uncertainty is the whole point. No jump cuts. No highlight reel. Just whatever’s on the tape.

Around 60 viewers show up every stream. They help identify commercials, recognize locations, fill in context I’d never find on my own. Someone spots a local car dealership. Someone else remembers that exact ad from childhood. That’s how this works.

Send Me Your Tapes

If you cleaned out your parents’ attic and found a box of VHS, I want them. Local commercials, TV recordings, corporate training, mystery tapes with no label. If it was recorded on magnetic tape, it belongs in the archive, not a dumpster.
