Around the 1999 Super Bowl (Super Bowl XXXIII)

Someone labeled this tape “Around the 1999 Super Bowl.” Not Super Bowl 1999. Around it. That distinction matters. Six hours of GE T-120 in EP mode, Sunbury Collection, covering John Elway’s final game and whatever was on local Ohio TV that day.

Super Bowl XXXIII was January 31, 1999. Denver vs Atlanta. Elway won his second consecutive championship and retired three months later. The halftime show was Gloria Estefan and Stevie Wonder. The dot-com ad market was at full peak — these were some of the most expensive and most ridiculous commercials ever made, and this tape has them.

The “around” framing is the interesting part. This isn’t just the game — it’s the day. Whatever was on before, whatever aired after, the local Ohio affiliate content wrapping the whole broadcast. That’s the tape. Lost media candidate, not yet streamed.
