Forty minutes of supercharged fuel altereds running the quarter mile at the Old Time Drags in New Jersey. Six-second runs. Over 200 mph. These are the wild cars: long chromoly tube frames, exposed blower sticking out of the hood, no roof, no windshield, just a driver strapped into an explosion on wheels.
About This Tape
Produced and directed by Dean George Papadeas for Main Event Entertainment. Catalog number 3636. The tape covers the blown alcohol altered class at Englishtown Raceway Park during the Old Time Drags event.
Englishtown is Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in South Amboy, New Jersey. It has been running drag racing since 1965 and is one of the oldest continuously operating strips in the country. The Old Time Drags events brought out the historic-class cars including the blown altereds, which run a style of dragster that dates back to the 1950s and 1960s hot rod scene. Open cockpit, supercharged alcohol fuel, maximum noise.
The production value is exactly what you would expect from a specialty drag racing VHS from an independent producer. It is for the people who are already into it. If you need it explained, this tape is not for you. For something at the other end of the spectrum — six hours of Cleveland sports TV from 1998 with Astros vs. Indians at Jacobs Field — the Cleveland 6-hour recording is a different kind of sports time capsule entirely.
