Lite Beer Presents: The Super Bowl Insider (NFL Films, 1990)

NFL Films. Miller Lite. Joe Montana almost passing out. They bleeped the swearing and still somehow made it work.

Tape VHS-2026-281 is a retail commercial release: Lite Beer Presents: The Super Bowl Insider, produced by NFL Films in 1990 and distributed by Polygram Video. Sixty minutes of Super Bowl history broken into segments — dynasties, blunders, emotions, trivia. Sponsored throughout by Miller Lite.

The Tape

Original retail case. Condition: Good. SP mode, 60 minutes. The packaging is intact — Polygram Video, NFL Films branding, Miller Lite sponsorship front and center.

What’s On It

NFL Films production values, which means it’s competent. The swearing got bleeped with what sounds like cartoon sound effects — someone in post had some fun with that. Joe Montana’s near-collapse during Super Bowl XXIII gets its own segment. The Redskins got called fat, sloppy, and old, and apparently those comments made their way back to the locker room.

Miller Lite commercials are embedded throughout. The alien/crop circles spot is legitimately good. There’s also an NFL Rocks! promo at the end.

Archive Verdict

A Miller Lite-branded NFL Films tape from 1990. Not a lost media situation, but a solid artifact of how sports media and beer advertising got packaged together for the home video market. The bleep effects alone are worth the runtime.
