It was a stadium giveaway — handed out at MLS games during Hispanic Heritage Night in 1997, the league\s second season. Five minutes of promotional video content, bilingual English and Spanish throughout. The cover says \Es el Juego.\ Features Carlos Valderrama, players from the Galaxy, MetroStars, and others.
The Neto logo is on the back. ©1997 MLS.
Lost Media
I searched for this online and came up empty. No upload of the specific Hispanic Heritage Night promo VHS anywhere on YouTube or the Internet Archive. Early MLS promotional material from 1997 is exactly the kind of thing that got handed out, watched once, and thrown away. This one survived sealed. Whether this copy gets opened or stays sealed is its own question.
Searched: YouTube for MLS Hispanic Heritage Night 1997 promo, general web searches for the specific Golazo VHS. No results for the content itself. The general MLS Hispanic Heritage Night tradition is well-documented starting from recent years, but this specific 1997 video does not appear to be preserved anywhere online.
About This Tape
Major League Soccer was two years old in 1997. The league was still figuring out what it was — expansion teams, international players, big hair. Valderrama was in the Tampa Bay Mutiny at this point, one of the most recognizable players in the league.
This tape is five minutes long. It was a giveaway. The league made it, Neto distributed it, and fans were supposed to watch a short hype reel about the Hispanic Heritage Night series of games across all MLS stadiums that season. Then they were supposed to recycle it.
This copy didn\t get recycled. Excellent condition. Still sealed.
