Rosie O’Donnell’s Kids Are Funny (HBO)

In 1997 Rosie O’Donnell was everywhere — daytime talk, awards circuits, charity work. The For All Kids Foundation was hers. This tape was the foundation’s fundraising vehicle: Rosie O’Donnell’s Kids Are Funny, an HBO comedy special featuring kids doing stand-up, hosted by Rosie at the peak of her run.

It’s a commercial HBO release with an ISBN on the back. Physical media, SP mode, 120 minutes. The kind of thing that turned up in video stores and then in donation bins once the VHS era ended. This one came through the archive in good condition.

The show itself is findable through secondary markets and HBO’s archive — not a preservation priority. What it is: a clean snapshot of how celebrity charity crossover content was packaged and sold in the mid-90s. The format, the tone, the HBO branding on a benefit special. That era had a specific aesthetic and this tape has it.
