Craig’s notes
Bill O'Connell starts by promising to teach rapid hypnosis in a minute or less, then spends a remarkable amount of time defining hypnosis. He talks straight to the camera about traditional inductions, responses and what he calls evidence-based hypnosis. I wanted to see somebody actually try the technique. At first the video looked so much like a man lecturing in his office that I was wondering what his qualifications were besides having made a tape.
An hour into the viewing, I was still waiting. He'd said a demonstration was coming, and then kept talking. I wasn't sure we would ever get one. Finally the video made its first cut and a participant appeared. He began with an eye-relaxation induction and went on to try other approaches. I was glad we stayed long enough to see that part. I thought she looked annoyed, though I can only speak for what it looked like from my chair.
The one-minute claim applies to the inductions he demonstrates, definitely not to how long it takes to reach them. I can't tell from watching whether the methods worked, only that the tape eventually shows him trying them.
