Craig’s notes
This is the parents’ half of Stranger Dangers, the companion to the kids’ Get Street Smart video. The package credits Cindy Williams and Dr. Laura Schlessinger; the program audio introduces Dr. Laura. It starts with a Capstone Entertainment and Safe Kids introduction, then moves through stranger approaches, children alone at home and the possibility of an adult posing as a child in a computer chat. That last part got us talking about what it meant to meet strangers online back then.
The advice eventually gets wonderfully specific: arrange a pattern of rings on the phone or a special signal at the door. I pictured getting locked out while my kid refused to let me in because I couldn’t remember the secret knock. The tape itself sounded noisy, and at one point I asked why the music was so loud. After the closing thanks, it kept going with a separate missing-child message, starting with “My child is missing” and naming the International Association for Missing and Abducted Children. That change in tone is hard to miss.
