Touring Scotland

Before YouTube travel vlogs, before streaming documentaries, before you could pull up a drone shot of Loch Lomond in thirty seconds — you bought a VHS.

VHS-2025-042 is “Touring Scotland” hosted by Gladys Rankin, a Questar Home Video Presentation. Glamis Castle on the cover. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, the River Clyde, and Loch Lomond inside.

Whats on the Tape

The tape sits in the archive unplayed. Based on the packaging, its a guided tour of Scotlands major landmarks and cities — a travel documentary in the classic Questar style. Questar produced a full series of these hosted by Gladys Rankin, covering destinations across Europe and beyond. Scotland was one of their better-selling titles.

The archive also holds VHS-2025-043 from the same series — Italy: Venice and Florence. Questar is building up in the collection.

About Questar Video

Questar Video, Inc. operated out of Chicago and was one of the bigger distributors of travel and nature documentaries on VHS through the late 80s and 90s. The Gladys Rankin touring series was a staple — these were the kind of tapes youd find in a public library or a hotel gift shop. Not rare, but a solid piece of pre-internet travel media.

Tape Condition

Verdict

A clean commercial release travel documentary. Questar, Rankin, Scotland. If you had a parent who collected travel tapes, youve seen this one.
