Twister takes two minutes and ten seconds to ride. WVIA gave the story of its construction half an hour. I haven’t watched this tape yet, but I like that imbalance. The ride is the payoff; somebody still had to work out how to get 3,900 feet of wooden track into place.

The sleeve follows the project from groundbreaking in November 1998 to its July 1999 debut, including a visit to the shop where the coaster cars were built. I’m curious how much of those thirty minutes goes to the engineering and how much goes to people screaming.

On the sleeve

  • Twister: A Wooden Wonder Comes Alive!, a WVIA documentary about the Twister wooden roller coaster at Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, Pennsylvania.
  • Construction from November 2, 1998, to the July 24, 1999 debut.
  • Coaster cars built at Philadelphia Toboggan in Lansdale; the sleeve also mentions an ACE convention, a trial run and a first ride auctioned for charity.
