Craig’s notes
Maya Angelou gave way to Wayne and Garth, and before long Michael Jordan was hosting Saturday Night Live. The Cleveland breaks were half the fun. Billy Dee Williams sold Colt 45, a Lever 2000 ad got us talking about feet for longer than the ad ran, and Fretter made me ask what a Fretter even was. Turns out it was an appliance store comparing its prices with Sears. Picway Shoes and Buddy's Carpet were in there too.
Then The Victory Garden took us over to WOSU and Columbus. Marian Morash made corn pudding. I'm not much of a corn person, but that looked good. MotorWeek showed a Nissan 240SX convertible; I'd still take a Miata. The tape swung back to SNL with John Goodman, then to a Little Caesars offer with a collapsible Kool-Aid jug I absolutely wanted. During The Young and the Restless I had to look twice at Brandon. Was that Paul Walker? Yes, it was. The soaps kept going, with a Bob Evans Ohio Pass ad that showed Kings Island tucked among the breaks.
Near the end, The Bold and the Beautiful was over and the picture dropped into noise. I nearly pulled the tape out. I let the last bit run, and Justin Wilson appeared, cooking crawfish. I couldn't believe he was hiding at the end of this thing. He added wine, salt and cayenne, and I was glad I hadn't stopped at the static.
