ABC 6 news, Noah’s Ark and Columbus commercials

This unlabeled tape first gave me ABC 6 news about Shouka coming to Geauga Lake and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. That pointed us toward April 2002. Then the recording jumped backwards to NBC 4 and the 1999 Noah’s Ark TV movie. I remember being annoyed when the early breaks seemed cut out; somebody had gone to the trouble of recording the movie and apparently didn’t want the ads. Fortunately they didn’t keep that up.

Once the breaks arrive, they’re almost their own program. The Next Neon drives through a moon-and-frog spot, Cedar Point advertises Camp Snoopy and its Flying Ace, and there’s a Target ad where I stopped to ask if that really was Ryan Seacrest. I thought I heard George Carlin in the Neon spot too, but I’m leaving those voice and appearance IDs as questions. The Columbus pieces are easier to love without solving anyone’s celebrity cameo: Third Federal’s pool and ‘Triplettes’ spots, an Ohio-city Ameritech rate plan, Schottenstein’s Diamonds for Mother’s Day and the NBC 4 newsbreaks. The film gives way to an 11 o’clock news block about New Rome residents suing over fees and a devastating Oklahoma tornado, and even that has its own ad break.

I started out trying to figure out what year we were in. The tape answered by changing years on me. I ended up enjoying the very thing the recorder initially seemed determined to remove: local television happening around the movie.
