This Polaroid tape starts with part of Kindergarten Cop, then somebody cuts over to Unsolved Mysteries. That is the decision that survived.
The recording is from KSNW in Wichita on June 17, 1992. After Robert Stack, there is the beginning of Seinfeld, The Diamond Fleece on USA, a few minutes of MacGyver, and News Channel 3 at the end. The local news includes coverage of the Interstate 70 serial killer.
The commercial breaks have a McDonald’s Batmobile Happy Meal, a Sears camcorder ad asking whether the tapes will play in your VCR, and an Olympic Triplecast pitch. Then the Sci-Fi Channel appears with a simple promise: coming September 24.
That was still three months away. Somebody in Wichita got the memo early.
