Batman Returns opened two days after this tape was made. The McDonald’s Batmobile Happy Meal ad is already running.
What’s on the Tape
Kindergarten Cop starts the tape and then disappears. Someone hit record over it. What replaced it was a full NBC block: Robert Stack’s Unsolved Mysteries, a partial Seinfeld cold open, and The Diamond Fleece, a 1992 USA Network movie with Ben Cross and Kate Nelligan that basically nobody remembers. MacGyver closes it out, also partial. News Channel 3 Wichita runs throughout, which is how you know where this tape spent the last 34 years.
Wichita market recordings are uncommon. This one comes loaded.
The Sci-Fi Channel pre-launch promo runs in June 1992 with the announcement: Coming September 24. The channel launched exactly on that date. Three months out, this promo was already in Wichita living rooms.
I-70 Serial Killer news coverage appears in the local segments. Active case, 1992. The Olympic Triple Cast promo runs for the Barcelona 1992 Games, advertising three simultaneous cable PPV channels for full Olympic coverage. Nobody bought it. It flopped completely. The ad exists here.
