Production Details
Main Event Video was one of several small operations in the 80s and 90s that filled a gap the major sports networks ignored. If you wanted footage of regional drag racing, you bought a tape from someone who was there with a camera. Distribution was through mail order, swap meets, and specialty retailers.
The back cover copy: “Outrageous, wild, and unpredictable super-charged blown alcohol altereds in quarter-mile match racing. Side-by-side track-length burn-outs, awesome dry hops, and 200 mph speeds in 6 second elapsed times. Englishtown Raceway Park Old Time Drags is the setting for fast-paced thrilling entertainment, intense up-close fluid camera work, tight-fisted editing, ambient track sounds and loud engine sounds in stereo gives you the feeling of standing on the starting line as Main Event Video takes you where your admission pass won’t.”
Featured cars include the “Young Guns” altered and car #172 “Excavator.” Stereo audio throughout. Duplicated on high-grade tape in SP mode.
The $2.00 price sticker on the sleeve suggests this came through a secondary market at some point — swap meet, estate sale, or used video shelf.
