Bobby Jones: How I Play Golf (SyberVision, 1988)

During the original 1930s filming, a golf ball hit the camera lens. They left it in. It is now part of an instructional tape.

About This Tape

This is a 1988 SyberVision production presented by Jack Nicklaus. The footage comes from Bobby Jones’ original 1931-32 “How I Play Golf” film shorts, which were produced by Warner Bros. and directed by George Marshall. There were 40 lessons in total.

Jones won the Grand Slam in 1930 — all four major championships in a single calendar year. Then he retired at 28. There was nothing left to win. He went ahead and made instructional films for a few years, then stopped. The SyberVision release packages those original shorts with a new introduction and framing from Nicklaus.

The 1930s source footage is already on YouTube through the Warner Archive channel, so this is not lost media. But the SyberVision presentation is its own thing.

The original Warner Bros. shorts are on IMDb and available through the Warner Archive. The knickerbockers are something chat had a lot of opinions about.
