First Knight (1995) Columbia TriStar VHS Release

Sean Connery as King Arthur. Richard Gere as Lancelot. Julia Ormond as Guinevere. Columbia TriStar, 1995.

This one came in already wearing different clothes. The cassette is a commercial release — factory pressed, SP mode, 134 minutes — but it's riding in a Memorex sleeve that was never its original home. Somewhere between 1995 and now, it got separated from its case and picked up a spare.

First Knight is the kind of film that lived on cable for years after its theatrical run. A big-budget Arthurian romance from the peak of mid-90s studio filmmaking, with a cast that should not have worked as well as it did. Connery's Arthur isn't the young warrior king — he's already the institution, already tired, already watching the thing he built start to crack. That tension carries the whole film.
