I Know What You Did Last Summer (Columbia TriStar, 1997)

This one came in the Blockbuster case. Blue and yellow, that specific font, the sticker on the back that says “To PLAY is human. To REWIND is divine!” The chain has been dead for over a decade now, but the cases keep showing up. People held onto them for a reason.

About This Tape

I Know What You Did Last Summer hit theaters in 1997 and landed on VHS shortly after. Columbia TriStar release. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze Jr. Based on the Lois Duncan novel from 1973 — though the film moves pretty far from the source material. It became the template for late-90s teen horror. A fisherman with a hook and a lot of screaming.

The film itself is widely available on streaming. This is not a preservation situation. What you’re looking at here is the physical artifact of how people watched movies in 1997. You drove to Blockbuster. You found this on the shelf. You brought it home. You rewound it when you were done (or you didn’t, and you paid the fine).

The tape is in good condition. The case is intact. Runtime is 101 minutes at SP speed.
